Sunday Morning Preview - July 17, 2016

I hope everyone will be able to join me this Sunday morning at Dakota as we continue our Summer Series: “In Search of Truth; Does the Bible Really Teach That?” With a sermon entitled; “Touch Not God’s Anointed.”

As far as you can tell you really are not a trouble maker and you certainly do not believe that you have a “divisive spirit". You aren’t a gossip and you don’t mean the pastor any ill will; its just that you have noticed some changes and you have few questions you would like to get answers to. You decide to speak up, and you talk to a couple friends to see if anyone else shares your concerns.

Out of the blue you get a call from an elder questioning your behaviour.  - People are upset!

Is it true that you have been questioning the Vision that God has given Pastor?

Is it true that you are not supporting God’s man?

Are you unaware that the Bible warns us to “TOUCH NOT GOD’S ANOINTED?”

Does the Bible really teach that Christian Pastors/Vision Casting Leaders are to be unquestionably obeyed?

Sunday Morning Preview - July 10, 2016

I hope everyone will be able to join me this Sunday morning at Dakota as we kick off our Summer Series: “In Search of Truth; Does the Bible Really Teach That?” The first sermon is entitled; “Jesus and the Scriptures.”

What do you believe about God? 

Is He loving? Is He merciful? Does he accept repentant sinners? 

Can we even know  the answer to questions like these with any kind of certainty? 

Christians are able to know God because He has revealed Himself in the scriptures by way of Holy Spirit inspired authors.

The man who says I believe Jesus would heal me, but that He will not judge the world is being inconsistent in his reasoning. The same Bible that reveals Him as a healer also says that He will judge the world.

There are many reasons why we trust the scriptures as authoritative but this week I want to look at what I consider to be the number one reason for doing so: how Jesus himself handled the scriptures.

Sunday Morning Preview - July 3, 2016

I hope everyone will join me this Sunday on the Canada Day long weekend for a stand alone message I have entitled, “Prone to Wander”.

Robert Robinson wrote the famous Hymn I am referencing in the title of this weeks sermon when he was 22 years old in 1757. The third verse is as follows:

Oh, to grace how great a debtor

Daily I’m constrained to be;

Let that grace now like a fetter

Bind my wandering heart to Thee:

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it;

Prone to leave the God I love.

Here’s my heart, oh, take and seal it,

Seal it for Thy courts above.

Sunday Morning Preview - June 26, 2016

This Sunday at Dakota we will have our annual mid-year financial report followed by a slightly time shortened sermon which in an unfortunate, yet actually unrelated coincidence, is entitled; “Patience in Suffering”.

Having sternly warned the rich oppressors who are unjustly holding back wealth for themselves without care for those who are wounded by their greed; James now seamlessly transitions into a discussion of Christian suffering.

The passage answers two important questions related to the topic:

What is required of the suffering Christian?

What encouragement is available to those who suffer?

We wound up taking all of our time in a discussion of Communion last Sunday so we'll try this again this week.

This Sunday at Dakota we really will continue our study in the book of James heading into the fifth and final chapter which begins with a rather stern warning to the rich.

Is James saying  in this week’s passage that it is somehow sinful to obtain wealth and to enjoy what we might call the good life? Is there something displeasing to God about wanting to succeed at work or in trying to improve our lives with education or specialized training? 

Are Christians meant to remain content in their “station” in life, never trying to advance in any way?

If that isn’t what’s going on here; what is? 

Do the prosperity gospel preachers have it right? Why or why not?

Please join me for what is sure to be an interesting time in this 26th instalment in the Epistle of James entitled; “Fat Hearts in a Day of Slaughter.”

• P - perseverance of the saints

Sunday Morning Preview - May 15, 2016

This Sunday at Dakota we will continue our study in the book of James by further examining chapter 4:13-17.

Last week we studied the overwhelming scriptural evidence in support of the doctrine of the Sovereignty of God. He is undeniably Lord over all creation and nothing happens that is outside of His control. Now we will look at some of the ways this reality works itself out life and practice.

If God knows all and controls all; what difference do we make, and how can we be held responsible for our sin?
