Sunday Morning Preview: August 3, 2014

For the summer of 2014 at Dakota we are working our way through the Ten Commandments, studying them in light of the New Covenant.

Until now we have been focused on the first table of the law which deals with our duty to God directly, now we move to the second table of the law which deals with our duty to God indirectly, through our responsibility to neighbour.

The plan is to first take a look at exactly what the law requires of us in the honouring of mother and father and then to examine several ways that this commandment is being undermined in our society and even in the church in our time. I hope you will all join me for what is sure to be an encouraging and [for some no doubt] a challenging time in God’s word.

Sunday Morning Preview - July 27, 2014

For the summer of 2014 at Dakota we are working our way through the Ten Commandments, studying them in light of the New Covenant.
I wonder how many of you have encountered this phenomenon in your Christian journey?

A great conspiracy, so it seems, has taken place.
It happened so long ago that everyone has by now accepted the lie and forgotten God’s original intent for Christianity.
All the churches have been duped or are corrupted by the teaching of the conspirators.
Now, thankfully and at long last, the Lord has spoken to some special leader with fresh revelation of the original truth; finally there is a new and improved understanding of what the scriptures are really saying.

Almost always there is some sort of a nod to the idea of salvation by faith alone, HOWEVER, there’s so much more to it than that. Sure, the gospel gets us in; but now what does the Lord require to stay in? It’s JESUS plus… something.

Enter the Sabbatarians, the Seventh Day Adventists, the new Hebrew Roots Movement, or as the bible clearly refers to all of them; the Judaizers.

I hope you will join me this Sunday as we unmask this deception and expose its terrible consequences.

Sunday Morning Preview - July 20, 2014

For the summer of 2014 at Dakota we are working our way through the Ten Commandments seeking to more fully understand the requirements of God’s Law; especially as to how it is to be applied in the lives of New Testament believers.

This week we will be focusing our attention on the third commandment which deals with the use and misuse of God’s name.

If we think of the modern business world with its trademarks and copyrights it is not hard to grasp the importance of protecting a good name. If you have ever been slandered or had someone misrepresent your words or actions to others then you know how hurtful and frustrating that can be, and yet the Name that is above every name is routinely used as a common curse word in our time.

When Jesus taught the disciples how to pray His first instruction was that the Name of the Father is to be “hallowed”; so where is the breakdown? Is it possible that God’s Name is abused in our world because it is not properly respected within the Church?

I hope to see you Sunday for more along these lines.

Sunday July 13, 2014 at Dakota

For the summer of 2014 at Dakota we are working our way through the Ten Commandments seeking to more fully understand the requirements of God’s Law; especially as to how it is to be applied in the lives of New Testament believers.

This week we will be focusing our attention on the second commandment which deals with the making of idols and the worship of anything or anyone other than the One True God as He has revealed Himself in Scripture.

There seems to exist a kind of spiritual snobbery around this topic in our day. How many believe we have evolved beyond the problem of idol worship in this modern age? I hope to put that notion to rest and then to turn our attention to two very sobering questions: “Am I worshiping the right God?” and then, “Am I worshiping Him the right way?”

I hope to see you all Sunday morning.

Sunday Morning Preview - July 6, 2014

I hope you will all join me this Sunday at Dakota Community Church for the kick-off of our Summer Series for 2014 entitled; “The Ten Commandments”.

How exciting is the prospect of spending the summer digging into the law? Don’t you just relish the mere thought of discovering additional rules and regulations you may have missed?
Think outside the Bible for a second.
Who hasn't thought at year end, “Oh boy I hope the tax laws have been expanded.”
Who doesn’t get excited when the boss announces a meeting to discuss new policies & procedures?

If just the thought of greater regulation exhausts you, you may not be alone; but is this how we should feel about the law of God?

Is it possible that we are missing something important in our unending demand for unfettered freedom?
