Sunday Morning Preview - May 21, 2017

Please join me this Sunday morning at Dakota Community Church as we wrap up our study of the reasons the Apostle Paul gives for his writing of this first epistle to the church in Thessalonica.

In these concluding paragraphs Paul seeks to defuse tensions within the community by exhorting the believers in the basics of life in a Christian Church. Respect leadership, live at peace, admonish the idle, help the weak, and be patient with one another.

There is a treasure trove of sound teachings in these few short sentences and we will endeavour to fill ourselves up on them before taking a break for the summer to focus on growing as a community, especially in the area of prayer.

Sunday Morning Preview - May 14, 2017

Please join me this Sunday morning at Dakota Community Church as we continue to work on better understanding a particularly controversial passage in the book of 1 Thessalonians.

The young congregation has expressed some concerns regarding life after death and, in particular, the fate of believers who die before the return of the Lord. Paul assures them that they have absolutely nothing to worry about, that their loved ones, though gone from this world, are still very much alive. More than this, they will return with the Lord when He comes to enjoy the celebration with us.

This reassuring news, he explains, is based upon the fact that Jesus died and rose from the dead, and upon a sure word from the risen Christ.

I hope to see you all Sunday morning as we look further into these amazing truth claims.

Sunday Morning Preview - May 7, 2017

Please join me this Sunday morning at Dakota Community Church as we continue to work on better understanding a particularly controversial passage in the book of 1 Thessalonians.

We have already determined that it was not Paul’s intention in this writing to establish a comprehensive eschatological overview of end time events.  The young believers in Thessalonica have heard that Jesus will soon be returning to judge the world and to gather His followers for a great reunion celebration. While this is an exciting prospect and an important part of the gospel message it has also caused concerns about the fate of Christians who have already died. Will they be included? Have they missed out by some fault of their own? What happens to the bodies of those whose spirits are with the Lord?

Paul puts all fear to rest when he reveals the historic event that secures our hope and comfort regaurding life after death. I hope to see you all Sunday morning.
