Welcome to Dakota Community Church

This morning our focus is on baptism, as always it is not about us - it is about Jesus!

...having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. (Col. 2:11-12)

Pride

Reflecting on my need of grace this morning. How can one so desperate as I; fall so quickly into smug self-righteousness & pride?#fallen

Riding an emotional roller coaster all week - at first tending to take credit for God's work in and through me, then feeling smugly superior at having avoided sins I am not tempted by.

Strange circumstances have me considering the brevity of life and the possibility of suddenly finding myself kneeling in the presence of Holiness.

I need a righteousness that is not of my own making.
No question I  produce "filthy rags" in abundance, works tainted by pride and selfish motivation. There is no salvation in them at all!

God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. (Col. 2:11-12)

Because we do this every summer I believe it is important to remember that baptism is not just some minor ritual that has to be covered - even though most of us already know all we need to know about it.

Baptism in fact gets its meaning and its importance from the death of Jesus Christ the Son of God, in our place and for our sins, and from his triumph over death in the resurrection that guarantees our new and everlasting life.

Baptism has meaning and importance only because the death and resurrection of Jesus are infinitely important for our rescue from the wrath of God and our everlasting joy in his glorious presence.

We are not mainly talking about religious ritual here.

We are not mainly talking about church tradition here.

This Sunday is about Jesus and his magnificent work of dying for our sins and rising for our justification!

I hope I will see you Sunday morning!

Sin vs Salvation

Good News

The gospel is the good news that God treated Jesus the way I deserved and he daily treats me the way Jesus deserves.

Sunday July 24, 2011

Welcome to Dakota Community Church

We have gathered this morning to celebrate Jesus!
This meeting is not about you and I.
It isn’t about a special dream, goal, vision, or destiny.
Christianity is not about something we do - it’s about Someone and what He has DONE!

Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” - Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. (Luke 6:46-48)

Please join me this Sunday morning for the fourth and final week of the “Summer on the High Seas” Sermon series!

We have been looking at various causes for the devastating storms that come and test the foundations that we have built our lives upon. Are we standing on the rock solid foundation of Christ; or are we unwittingly building on shifting sand?

So far we have looked at the self-inflicted storm (As in the case of Jonah); at the storm caused by the actions of another (As with Paul), and at the devastating storms brought by Satan’s deceptive schemes in the life of Hymenaeus.

This week we are going to turn our attention to the dilemma of Jesus’ disciples who find themselves “straining at the oars” and “buffeted” by the waves. Jesus defies the laws of nature in order to rescue them, first walking on water and then commanding the storm to be calm. How did the disciples get into this storm and - why was it necessary?

I hope I will see you Sunday morning!

Tender Mercy - New Every Morning

Good Morning!

For the Lord sees not as man sees: Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart (1 Samuel 16).

Welcome to Dakota Community Church
Please join us this morning as we worship the One who has “made us alive”!

“There on the cross He bore our sins
And we became His righteousness
Now we stand here justified
Now we live because He died.”

I hope you will join me this Sunday for week three of our “Summer on the High Seas” Sermon series!
We are looking at various causes for the devastating storms that come and test the very foundations that we have built our lives upon. Is your life standing on the solid rock foundation of Christ, hearing, knowing, and acting upon His word; or are you unwittingly building on something else? (Sand)

This week will look at the devastating effects of Satan's deceptive storm in the life of a man named Hymenaeus. Is it possible for someone who once believed to fall away from faith and be eternally lost? If someone does fall away and deny Christ - does it mean that they were never really reborn?

Welcome to Dakota Community Church
Welcome to Grace
             Welcome to Freedom
                          Welcome to Laughter!

But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3:21-24

Last week we looked at the storm Jonah faced and saw that sometimes we wind up suffering terribly because of our own rebellious actions. (Jonah ran from the Lord in defiant disobedience.)

Now we will see from the ministry of the Apostle Paul (See link below) that there are times when our lives are disrupted by horrific storms that happen as a result of living on a fallen planet with other fallen and sinful human beings. What are the unique temptations that come when we suffer because of the actions of another? How do we survive in these cases and what is God’s will for us in the midst of these storms?
